Il Etait une Fois - Piatti

Excellent food, service and wine from start to finish and a well priced menu with choice at lunch time €26 for 3 courses or €20 for 2. Perfectly cooked fish. Beautifully presented and good strong flavours. No outside area but nicely air conditioned inside which was a delight in the heat of the middle of the day.

We went to Il Etait une Fois two times (so far) and enjoyed the ambiance, food, and service. The menu is fixed and changes according to what looks good to the chef. The local pork is often featured and should be tried when you are in the area. You will probably need a reservation. Any fish dish will be excellent. The cost is extremely reasonable.

This is a beautiful, elegant restaurant in Aix's center. Too bad I was traveling alone as it is a wonderfully romantic place to share. I had monkfish in a foam, which was served with pork belly and slivers of cheese. While it never sounds good fwhen I describe the ingredients, the dish was wonderful every taste complimented the fish beautifully. I give it my highest recommendation. Enjoy! Visualizza piatti

We came to Il Etait une Fois for our first dinner as a part of Cooking in Provence, a culinary tour of Provence with Chef Kathy of Food Lover's Odyssey. Kathy lived in Provence and knows the young owners. The meal was incredible good and a wonderful entree to the cuisine of Provence. There were four of us and everyone thoroughly enjoyed each course. We shared the succulent rabbit appetizer, which was a full umami experience, then enjoyed the lamb, cooked a perfect medium rare (our specification), with a side of roasted sweet potatoes. I chose the Chateau Cremade wine which turned out to be a fabulous accompaniment: a full-bodied and full-flavored wine with not too much fruitiness. The restaurant's decor was understated with a neutral palette and sort of a woodsy shabby chic. The staff were helpful and polite.

Well located in the center of Aix-en-Provence. Good welcome.We have been very well looked after. Food was excellent well presented. We were three and made three different choices and they were all good. Dessert although never my favorite part of the meal was very good and the waiter has been very generous wine chateau cremade from palette area ( close to Aix-en-Provence one of the smallest wine appellation in France) was really good.Merci et bonne continuation à l'équipe ! We celebrated my spouse's 60th birthday here, per a recommendation from the owner of our apartment in Aix. She said most restaurants aren't open on Sunday nights, but thought we'd enjoy IlEtait une Fois. This small restaurant is run by a husband & wife. He's the chef, she is the only server. It was fairly busy, which explains why the service was not very attentive, and our food was somewhat overdone and not very hot by the time it arrived. The food, however, was creative. Being regularly in Aix for work, I have been to this restaurant before a few times and I know the food is great. I have been there every time without reservation and so they gave me the high table at the door. This time I did make a reservation and they still gave me the high table at the door!! I assume they believe if you are dining alone, you don’t deserve comfort? When I asked them why I can’t get a table at the back (I speak French , the young lady told me that they have given me the last available table (why me? several couples arrived after me! and that if I am uncomfortable, she can try to get me a table at another restaurant!! We went to this very expensive restaurant in order to enjoy a nice evening and a fine meal. The reason for our selection were the many good ratings and comments on tripadvisor! As starters we chose tatin de tomate (a kind of tart with tomatoes ; they unexpectedly contained calamri/octopus on the top, but were nevertheless very good. At this point of the evening the service was still very fast, as the restaurant was almost empty. The good impression changed, when our main courses were served.
